Paywelders for the US market

Zeppelin Power Systems supplies Caterpillar engines with EU V/Tier 4 final emissions for paywelders to the Vietz GmbH, manufacturer of machines and equipment for pipeline constructions. The VFT product range is used for HDPE pipeline construction in the USA.

In 2020, Zeppelin Power Systems equipped the VFT 900 (pipe diameter 500-900 mm) – the Hanover-based company's largest HDPE paywelder – with Cat C7.1 engines provided as plug and play power units including radiator. The engines comply with the EU V/Tier 4 final emissions standard and have an output of 186 kW. This year, the delivery of a Cat C4.4, EU V/Tier 4 final with 129 kW, for the new generation VFT 500 NG (pipe diameter 300-500 mm) follows for the Australian market. “We supply customers all over the world from our production sites in Hanover and Leipzig. We established a sales location in the USA in 2019 and engines from the Caterpillar brand are particularly popular with our US customers," reports Alexander Vietz, Managing Director of the Vietz Group. “Zeppelin Power Systems supplies us with the desired Cat engines as a plug-and-play solution that we can easily integrate into our machines and guarantees us worldwide availability of spare parts. The services match our requirements perfectly."

40 years of experience on pipeline construction sites worldwide
As a manufacturer of welding and testing technology, bending and lifting devices the Vietz Group supplies construction companies all over the world. The paywelders VFT 500 (pipe diameter 300-500 mm) and VFT 900 (pipe diameter 500-900 mm) have been developed for the effective and safe welding of large-format PE-pipes. Inside the ROPS-certified cabin there is a butt-welding machine which can be adapted to a wide range of pipe diameters by using inserts. The pipes are held exclusively by the machine for welding. Pipe stands or costly support systems are no longer necessary. The alignment of the pipes is continuously hydraulic, which accelerates the welding preparation and reduces the effort for facing. The diesel engine of the VFT drives the hydraulic and electrical components of the machine.
