Zeppelin presents its new 12.5-liter engine at Agritechnica trade fair

The Zeppelin Power Systems business unit is adding the Cat C13B to its EU emissions class V range of engines.

Zeppelin Power Systems, official partner of Caterpillar, has presented a range of next-generation engines that comply with the EU emissions class V standard, which will take effect from 2019. The centerpiece of the product presentation was the new Cat C13B 12.5-liter engine.

The C13B is suitable for use in various industries and fields of application in the agricultural and forestry, materials handling and mining sectors, among other areas. It is compliant with the EU emissions standard Class V, which will take effect from 1 January 2019, and the EPA Tier 4 Final emissions standard for off-highway machines and vehicles. Zeppelin Power Systems offers the new engine with nominal outputs of 340 to 430 kW at speeds of 1800 to 2100 1/min and up to 2,640 Nm of torque. The model boasts improved air, electrical and aftertreatment systems, and is around 30 percent lighter at these performance levels, when compared to previous models. Furthermore, it does not require cooled exhaust gas recirculation.

“Our customers expect reliability and durability, in a simple, light package with the highest possible output, and that is precisely what we are offering with our new engines,” explains Jonny Al-Saiegh, Technical Manager for Caterpillar industrial engines at Zeppelin Power Systems. “We do not just meet the prescribed emissions standards, but simultaneously increase the output density and fuel efficiency too, as well as reducing complexity. That is how we create clear added value for our customers.”

As with all Caterpillar 9-18-liter engines, Zeppelin Power Systems also offers the C13B with a range of different configurations so that customers can select the one that best suits their individual requirements. The EU Class IV and Tier 4 Final engines in the C13, C15 and C18 product ranges will soon also be certified at the EU Class V level. Dual label certification – Stage V and Tier 4 Final – will also be offered for 9-18-liter engines with outputs between 250 and 597 kW. This means that customers can comply with regulations for various markets, such as Europe, the USA and China, with just one engine.
