The BSFZ seal is considered proof of entrepreneurial innovation competence. It is awarded to companies whose research and development activities have been confirmed as eligible for funding by at least one certificate. Zeppelin Power Systems achieved this by developing a fuel cell power generator suitable for use on construction sites and at sea, which was officially inaugurated at the Hamburg site in May.
The generator set developed, a half 20-foot container equipped with a PEM fuel cell, a lithium-ion battery, and power outputs for CEE plug devices or hard wiring, is powered by hydrogen and thus offers an emission-free way of generating electricity. As a hybrid fuel cell and battery system, it is suitable for numerous industrial applications and can be used in stationary and maritime applications, as well as in emergency power supply, among other things.
In connection with other research projects, this has created the expertise for the application of fuel cell systems in other areas as well. Zeppelin Power Systems is thus underlining its mission to shape technological change.
“We have been working on this solution for around three years,” says Keno Leites, Head of the Fuel Cell Competence Center at Zeppelin Power Systems. “The fact that we have not only reached the milestone of the official inauguration this year but have also received this seal is a great achievement.”
“With this seal, we can now clearly show the outside world how much innovative power we have,” adds Frank Hartmann, Head of Product Management at Zeppelin Power Systems. “It proves the internal R&D performance of our company—a team achievement we can be proud of.”
